Ionizing Radiation Machines (X-Ray) - Florida Department of Health (.gov)

The Florida Department of Health oversees the Radiation Machine Program, which aims to minimize radiation exposure from X-ray machines, the largest source of man-made radiation to the public. Since 1958, the program has inspected over 64,000 registered X-ray machines across more than 21,000 facilities, including hospitals and universities. Inspections are scheduled based on machine usage, ranging from annually for high-risk machines to every five years for others. In the past year, over 15,000 inspections were conducted. The program ensures compliance with safety regulations and mandates the removal of machines posing immediate health threats. For less critical issues, facility owners are given 90 days to rectify deficiencies.
